Classes

INTRODUCTION

January 2012

Economy? Discouraging.
Politics? Same-old, same-old.
World Peace? Not so far.

We can’t fix some things, but we can always sew!
It’s a new year – let’s do it!

BLOCK OF THE MONTH: “RAINING CATS AND DOGS”
clip_image002[1] With whimsical cats and dogs and quaint houses, this 55”x 62”(or larger, with borders) quilt will keep you smiling.  Included are 10 simple applique blocks in bright pastel fabrics, with bits of embroidery and embellishment.   (We teased you with this cute quilt last fall, and now the fabric is really here!)  The monthly kits are $26 and can be picked up here or mailed, beginning in January.  Pay for your first and last month’s kits up front, and for the remaining kits as you go.  This is Roxanne’s favorite quilt!

VIKING CLUB
**
Learn, grow, create, laugh. This is hands-on learning while you make something fun and functional  We invite all owners of any Husqvarna Viking sewing machines and the fee is $85 per year. You get a 10% discount on all Viking stuff all year (like feet, bobbins, accessories, hoops, designs, software, etc.) And you’re invited to a meeting the fourth Friday of each month.  Do the math: $85 for 9 classes (we don’t meet during the summer months) makes them $9.45 each. Even if you have to miss half the meetings, this is still less than a regular class would cost. Is that a bargain or what! We’ll do a useful project each month designed to teach you something interesting that you can do with your fascinating Viking. Enjoy “Show ‘n’ Tell” and get new inspiration from your classmates. Teachers will be Sandy or other staff members. The time is 11-2pm Fourth Fridays or as announced
January 27, February 17, March 23, April 27, May 25

25. FLEUR DÉCOR

clip_image002It’s elegant, it sparkles with little crystals, and when it’s pieced it’s quilted too!  This pretty table quilt or wallhanging uses a bargello quilt-as-you-go plan for the setting and fusible applique for the lilies in the center.  Angie Herrington will help you complete this appealing mini-quilt in time for your Easter table.  $43 plus supplies

clip_image002[6]She’s ba-aack!  You asked and we got it done.  Last November, Carol Ann Waugh inspired us and we felt renewed creative stirrings.  Every student produced a treasure – and almost all were finished in class!  Everyone also learned tons about her own machine

26. STUPENDOUS STITCHING

In this one day class taught by Carol Ann Waugh, you will be combining hand embroidery with decorative machine stitching that will help you create fabulous textures and colors on batik fabric. This is the class you need to explore and use all those hundreds of “decorative stitches” included in your sewing machine. Not only will you learn numerous hand embroidery stitches, decorative machine stitching and couching, you will also learn a new way to bind your piece with rattail cord –  a professional (and easy!) finish to every piece to be hung on the wall.  $78 plus kit
Friday, April 20, 9:30-5pm
** On a personal note, Sandy & Bob were at the Buell Theatre in Denver before Christmas and saw Carol’s Stupendous Stitching exhibit.  It was stunning in that prestigious venue!

27. STITCH & SLASH

clip_image002Graduates of Stupendous Stitching beware! If you thought Stupendous Stitching was addictive – wait until you finish your first “Stitch & Slash” piece! This technique is even more addictive!  You will learn the unlimited design possibilities of raw edge cut work and add to the surface texture techniques you learned in Stupendous Stitching.
Starting with simple machine stitching (either free motion or regular stitching) you will stitch a design on the back of your layered fabrics.  Then, it’s ripping and tearing (the most fun part!) to uncover a geometric pattern on the top.  The final steps will be to hand stitch and machine couch to create your textured fabric art.   This is another fun class where every design decision you make is based on the decision you made before.  And, there are no rules except to have fun!  $78 plus supplies     Saturday, April 21, 9:30-5pm

Payable when you enroll in a class, your class fee is refundable if you cancel at least 3 days before class (7 days before a weekend class), or if we can fill your space. Please respect us and our teachers by using our classroom machines when available, and by buying your class supplies from Glenwood Sew. We love children, pets, and visitors, but please don’t bring them to class.
